Friends of the Muscatatuck River Society Monthly Minutes Opening: 8-1-02 Call to order by vice president Ken Huff at 7:05 PM. Attendance: Tom Moore Ken Huff Jessica Huff Aaron Floyd Jo Ann Hallawell Larry Allsop Sandra Clark Greg Martin Big welcome to new members Aaron and Jessica! Minutes: From last meeting read and accepted. Treasurer's Report: $120 cash from t-shirt, sticker sales, and a $50 donation. HHH account is at $500. 11 stickers and 44 t-shirts (1 med., rest L and XL) are left. Old Business: Action Sheets- Jo Ann has additions to relay to Kim. End of Spring Clean Up set for June 21st @ 9:00 to coincide with the Ohio River Sweep. Tires- Jo Ann related that the Solid Waste District's tire recycler could not handle tires from the river because of the dirt and gravel plugging up the machinery. New Business Fall Metal Recycling Day is 9-21-02 Fall General Recycling Day is 9-28-02. Brochures- Greg will have Patrick Morley send out a PDF by Tuesday, then we will meet on Thursday August 8 at 7:00PM in the library for final appraisal. HHH and Jennings County Soil and Water Conservation District will be added to the brochure, one as group sponsor, the other as provider of the brochure. Other sponsors will be recognized on an insert flyer to be produced by Jo Ann. 500 are to be printed ASAP. 319 Grant- It was moved, seconded, and unanimously approved to apply for a 319 Grant as outlined by the committee. The committee will meet once a week through August to complete their work. Annual Public Report Meeting- This will be in conjunction with the regular February meeting. This will feature the year in review, our holdings, findings, and anything else we are required to take care of for the sake of the public meeting. This is also the meeting at which we induct newly elected officials. Water quality testing review- Sandra Clark will check with Cosco for a table to use at the testings and Larry will purchase a sealing plastic tub in which to store the testing box. Displays for future clean ups- Larry is checking on a road-crossing banner from 2 sources. Jo Ann will provide clear plastic brochure stands to use before the clean ups. Has the information been entered on the web? Policy Statements- Our mission statement and existing law will suffice for the present. Other- Storage- Tom will check with mini storage companies for space available. Greg offered space at the Park as a possibility. Larry will continue to store the water quality kits in a controlled environment at Crosley. Jo Ann passed out name lists from sign ups at the fair booth. Tom has copies if you need one. Jo Ann distributed 2002 Indiana Fish Consumption Advisories affirming our existence. Aaron stated the appealing part of the testing was getting in the river and Jessica mentioned locating fauna as interesting.
