Friends of the Muscatatuck River Society Monthly Minutes Opening: 11-7-02 Call to order by president Dan Shade at 7:00 PM. Attendance: Dan Shade Tom Moore Ken Huff Jo Ann Hallawell Sherida Moore Susannah Hole Andy Ertel Paul Madinger Minutes: From last meeting reviewed and accepted. Treasurer's Report: No report. Old Business: Clean up review: It was agreed to intensify efforts with groups assigned areas that included only one drop-site. Susannah is creating maps. It was agreed to acquire an appropriate tool to sever tires. There was some discussion concerning the value of weight figures. Jo Ann will check with the newspaper concerning a civic group holiday wish list where we could ask for needed items such as flat bottom boats, etc. Bridge clean ups for land lovers was endorsed. Communication with the Vernon Fire Department is needed as they were not aware of the last clean up. There was much discussion concerning high school students and getting the word out in general. Paul will contact appropriate people at the high school concerning curriculum, assistance, and communication. Andy will check on signs from the Ohio River clean up group. Water quality testing review: There is a desire to increase the testing sites to some tributaries and get a 2-wheel cart to access the river with equipment. Smaller plastic tub packaging needs to be considered for the equipment. Ken hopes to become a trainer next year. New Business Meeting days are now the first Tuesday of each month at the Jennings Library from 7-8:30 PM. Clean up dates for the coming year are April 26, June 14, and October 4, 2003 The annual meeting will be held on February 4 @ 7:00 PM. Dan will write the town of Vernon a letter concerning the city dumping organic refuse on the banks at the Commons. Sherida will distribute brochures to sporting good stores, DNR sites, and other appropriate places. The December meeting will be to build our business plan. It will include, but not be limited to what are our priorities, why are they important to us, and how are we going to accomplish them. This will build on and be an extension of our previous work with Gary Conant. Andy Ertel will lead the facilitation. We will come out with a plan that we can go to the public with concerning our needs and how they can fit into our mission. It will also provide information needed if the 319 grant should be approved. The partner list will be updated to include Ducks Unlimited, Quail Unlimited, Hunter's Alliance, church youth groups, and others. A scholarship will be discussed. Please attend with your input.
