Friends of the Muscatatuck River Society Monthly Minutes Opening: 1-6-04 Call to order by President Dan Shade at 7:00PM. Attendance: Dan Shade Ken Huff Tom and Sherida Moore Sandra Clark Susannah Hole Larry Allsop Darlene Williams Steve Mobley Jennifer Ertel Everett Sparkman Minutes: From last meeting reviewed and accepted with amendments. Dan, Ken, Larry, and Simeon went to West Lafayette to accept our state level 2003 Conservation Accomplishment Award from the Indiana Soil and Water Association Society. This award is belongs to everyone who has ever worked a clean up. It lends even more credence to the importance of what we do. It is uplifting to know that a group so involved in soil conservation and water purity should honor our labors. Treasurer's Report: Local balance is $1476.63. There were two rebates of $30.00 and $100 from Hewlett Packard. We spent $55 on shovels. They will not fit in the dry bags. HHH balance is $1000. Old Business: 319 Grant- This agenda item was overrun because of Annual meeting and bridge discussion. Our QAPP must be written, approved by IDEM, and followed in the second quarter (Dec., Jan, Feb.) of our grant. Sim has that ball rolling. It was suggested that for the 319 purposes E coli might be a more fruitful item to measure than dissolved oxygen. Sim has pursued the testing and has some options for consideration including Sherry Laboratories, which we did not get around to discussing as a group. There is some concern over grant language interpretation. We are all still on the same wave length concerning where we are going and what needs accomplished, but the grant may require us to do those things in certain ways or under certain guises. We may want to do something in the water testing area because we see the judicious need. Update- (to be completed)) Jennifer and Tom will get with Roger McKinley to investigate cooperative efforts with the local Kiwanis and to schedule a presentation. Update- (to be completed) Jennifer will attempt to present to the Rotary Club (Tuesdays, noon, Ponderosa) through Carolyn Frey.
