Friends of the Muscatatuck River Society Meeting Minutes: November 1st in the Jennings County Library Meeting called to order @ 5:30 pm. Attendance: Tom Moore, Sherida Moore, JoAnn Moore, Troy Jackson, Kevin Jayne, Everett Sparkman, Simeon Stearns. Minutes approval: Approved as read. Treasurer's report: The balance of $4197.83 was carried over from last meeting. Awaiting HHH correction results. Old Business: RCAP JNRU meeting results: RCAP plans to approach the problem @ Delmar addition. Cost incurred could be $25,000 for hookup. JNRU statutes stated it is in its jurisdiction. A committee of Tom and Simeon will approach Cheryl Trissler and Andy Ertel to resolve this issue. Web Site Info: Tom will talk to Simeon and Bill Black @ Black Business Systems about posting meeting minutes to the website. Troy will also follow up on this with Mr. Black, as well as discuss putting a "countdown clock" counting down to the next cleanup. 319 closeout (camera, laptop): Closeout is tabled until next meeting. HHH may have some ownership rights to the camera due to contributions they gave toward its purchase. Tom and Simeon to discuss with HHH to propose a "waiver" to seek full ownership. It was proposed to store the camera and laptop in a locked cabinet @ the Health Department cubicle. A checkout policy was also briefly discussed. Assignments: Tom: - Dave/Jim Shaw on concrete dumping: Tabled. - JC Foundation meeting: Tabled. Troy: - H & H Computer for decals: A 6x8 single-color decal would cost $3.50 each per 100; a larger order would drop price a little. Sherida suggested getting a quote for a 4x6 1000 count. H & H can print this size for $1.75 each. Troy will contact H & H and discuss further. - RC/Pepsi sponsorship: Both organizations offered to donate barrel coolers for our next cleanup. Simeon: - Surveillance Camera: One with a flash will cost $69. Everett reported on an infrared model he saw in Louisville and will do more research on it. Tom also suggested that we contact Crane Naval to donate one to us; Crane Naval is obligated by governing rules to loan equipment to the public when requested. - National City corporate sponsorship: A letter has been sent and we are awaiting a response. Sherida: - Certificate/thank you's: They have been sent and also published in the paper. Simeon will make a draft for a certificate to review by next meeting. Kevin will distribute when finalize and printed. Kevin volunteered to take some can coolies to KFC and others who donated to the event. New business: Annual meeting: Date is set for February 7. Officers should be nominated by next meeting, with election to be held in January. Troy will contact them to discuss this. Correspondence: Email from Terry Stephenson on the new 319 grant application: Terry's advice was to remove the section pertaining to DNA testing. Amy @ Jefferson County SWCD will update the application to reflect this. Other: FMRS site warning signs: Everett met with 2 Indianapolis DNR representatives, Billy Bright, Terry Goodin, Larry Callahan, Jeff Barger, Frank Biehle, Scott County Sheriff and DNR representatives to discuss dumping @ FMRS sites. In summary, DNR is incapable of monitoring properly. Legislation for dumping from bridges is a $5,000 fine for dumping into river and $1,000 for littering on the bank. Judge John Webster has stated that he will be strict with this, but it needs to be filed properly. IDEM has volunteered to do any testing necessary to aid in investigations. It was suggested by Kevin to report all activities to ISP also. Everett had Rick Solomon in Uniontown make a sample sign; Rick charges $112.00 to make 4 signs (white sign with black lettering. Everett presented the sample to the group. Troy took a picture of the sign, and will check with H & H to see if they are capable of making it and to get prices. Watershed Management training: Kevin has volunteered to attend training classes consisting of 24 attendees at 6 on-site class dates ranging through 1/6 to 6/6. Registration deadline is 11/15. Completion of the program is rewarded with a certification through Purdue University. A motion was made by Everett and seconded by Joann to send Kevin for training. Motion was carried. Office Hours: We need volunteers to occupy the FMRS office 10-15 hours per week from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm Monday through Friday. If interested, contact Tom.
