Friends of the Muscatatuck River Society Meeting Minutes: December 6th in the Jennings County Library Meeting called to order @ 5:31 pm. Attendance: Tom Moore, Sherida Moore, Troy Jackson, Kevin Jayne, Simeon Stearns, Les Ticknor, Cherie Ticknor, Greg Fischesser. Minutes approval: Approved as read. Old Business: Cleanup dates in 2006: Dates are 5/13/2006 and 10/07/2006. We need to resolve any conflicting dates (i.e. Prom, SAT testing, etc.). 319 closeout (camera, laptop): All grant items are finalized and closeout forms have been mailed. It was agreed on to store the camera and laptop @ the Health Department cubicle. RCAP/ JNRU @ Delmar addition: The current system in place now at Delmar Addition is dumping raw sewage straight into the Muscatatuck River, without any functioning filter system. According to an email sent to FMRS, the JNRU board has rejected the request for hookup Delmar to their pumping station located just a few hundred feet away, and will also not release to the city. The email also requested that FMRS approach RCAP to help resolve the issue. Simeon and Greg will write a letter to RCAP, and FMRS will continue to review this situation. Annual Meeting: Meeting is confirmed for February 7, 2006. Action register: - Library conference room is reserved @ 5:00 pm. - Sherida will contact Mayor John Hall for officer induction - 319 report for meeting: Simeon will pass the printed final report around for review - Dan Shade Memorial: Display a picture of the access site sign and add to the Powerpoint presentation. Discussions of other memorial ideas: - Install a bench and plant catalpa trees @ Vernon Commons, maybe as a school project on Arbor Day or a kindergarten project on Earth Day. Discussed using 'recycled' bench and getting concrete from Lee's or Shaw Monument. Assignments: Tom: - Dave/Jim Shaw on concrete dumping: Tabled. - JC Foundation meeting: Tabled. Troy: - H & H Computer for decals: H & H can print 4x6 1000 count for $1.75 each. Tom will get an existing decal for Troy to reference. Cherie mentioned Huskill Tech Service in Seymour (522-2154) that could be much cheaper; she has used them in the past through the Crystal Glades Lake Association. Troy will pursue this option. - FMRS site dump-warning signs: Troy will contact the company mentioned above for the sign also. Simeon: - Surveillance Camera: No action taken this month. Kevin will look into a camera sold @ Walmart for $40.00. - Treasury report/HHH balance: $4645.25 - $500 to PDS - $800 to Phyllis @ HHH (for balance of $2,200) = $3345.25. Upcoming expenses include Insight Advertising and Watershed Management training. Sherida will call Phyllis to confirm any HHH balance issues. - Internet updates: Troy will talk to Bill Black @ Black Business Systems about posting pictures and meeting minutes to the website, adding a "countdown clock" till the next cleanup and an online registration form. Kevin: - Watershed Management class: Kevin sent an email to a select few outlining the class schedule (first class on 1/26/05, last class on 6/6/2006), fees ($250, due 12/22/2005), and other pertinent info about the class. A copy is available upon request. Troy will notify Bryce Mayer @ PDS via this email to make our interest in this class public. Kevin mentioned approaching the Jennings County Community Foundation and other organizations to request donations to cover the entrance fee. Kevin will contact Steve Mobley about this. - Thank-you Certificates: Kevin presented a draft to the group; Cherie suggested putting them in a frame and printing on ivory paper. Other: - Office Hours: We need volunteers to occupy the FMRS office 10-15 hours per week from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm Monday through Friday. If interested, contact Tom. - Greg shared an ad from the paper from Sand Creek Society advertising for an employee for their watershed management plan. Their group was approved for a 319 grant, Greg suggested that we email them to show our interest to partner with them; Greg and Simeon to handle this.
