FMRS Meeting Minutes 4-4-06 @ Jennings County Library Called to Order @ 5:32pm Attendance: Tom Moore, Kevin Jayne, Sherida Moore, Simeon Stearns, Les Ticknor, Troy Jackson, Christine Coons. Approval of Minutes: Simeon suggested we strike the JNRU from the March minutes due to inaccuracies in the report as stated by Kevin Starks. Troy will handle this. Treasurer's Report: From Sherida's Report: - CENTRA Account: Checking - $3040.47; Savings - $25.51; Total - $3065.98 - Home Federal Checking Account: $1849.68 - Corporate Sponsorship from National City Bank to HHH for FMRS - $250.00 - CD research: We are looking to invest $1000. CENTRA requires a minimum $5000 @ 4.85% interest. Scott Oliphant with American Funds is offering one with no withdrawal penalties. Tom made a motion to form a 'budget committee' to research further; committee will be formed next meeting. Old Business: Assignments: Bill: -John Allman, memorial plaque at Rock Garden, Fliers: Tabled; Bill was not present to report on this. Troy: - Check vendors for decals and dump signs: Troy has had no opportunity to get to Seymour to check on Hukill Tech Service. He will contact Larry Hartwell @ H&H Computers to see if he can print static (non-adhesive) decals. The group assigned a $250 budget for 150 decals. -Web site information: Vince Jackson will not have time to maintain site for Black Business Systems. Simeon will contact Wolf Creative Design to maintain our site. Simeon: -Moultrie game/perpetrator camera to have by 5-13-06: It will cost $120 for a black one and $199 for the camo version. Some options: 15-second video, interval, flash on/off. A motion as made to mount it on private property near one of the trouble sites (site undisclosed in the minutes to keep the location confidential). Kevin: -Watershed class updates: Kevin stated that all of his assignments and some of the reports are submitted; graduation is June 6. He shared some of his works from the class: * Event Planning Calendar to the group made for the class; after review, it needs 2 minor modifications made. * Strategic Planning/Interview Summary He needs ideas for his final class demo, based on a research paper and oral report bringing together watershed planning, implementation and testing. Kevin requested to review the notes from the original watershed plan model for ideas. Kevin notified the group of a Hoosier River Watch training session on June 16 @ the Jefferson County SWCD. He is also making contacts statewide, including members of the Shelbyville Watershed Management and Hoosier Environmental Council (www.hecweb.com) New Business: - Skipping some monthly meetings: The group agreed on skipping March, July, August, and December. We will still meet next month as scheduled. If an emergency situation requires a meeting on these dates, a small group will be notified as needed. - Curriculum purchase for schoolroom use: Simeon brought in curricula from EnviroScape to review for purchase; they include: * Make Your Own Watershed Kit * Air and Waste Management Association's Environmental Resource Guides * Earth Forces' Protecting Our Watershed * Non-point Source Model HRW supplies: Simeon says we have one complete set and some testing strips; Kevin requested purchasing Green Kits and supplies. Kevin mentioned a possibility of getting HRW to refill our kits for free, but can only be done for a limited time. This info provided by Julie Diehn @ SWCD. The group allocated a $200 budget cap for supplies. The Budget Committee will present the idea to Bryce Mayor @ PD&S. ACTION REGISTER May 13th Sweep - Food: Kevin to contact establishments from last cleanup via letters and calls. Tom and Cheryl to supply chips. Nee servers; Greg and PJ Fischesser will not be able to attend this year - Drinks: Sherida to get water from local grocery stores. Troy will contact Pepsi/RC; he will get them to loan out their barrel coolers. - Gloves: Simeon and Tom will contact Sheriff's Department to get some. - Registration: Christinia and Sherida will make up pre-printed forms; will contain registration info from last year for signers to confirm info and blanks for new participants. Publicity: - TV: Simeon will arrange Insight Media advertisement like last year; he will also contact Jeff Green @ JCHS to get a spot on JCTV. - Civic Groups: Simeon will speak with Rotary, JCHS groups - Radio : Bill will handle PSA's with local stations - Newspaper: FMRS Minutes are submitte and published by PD&S; we should also contact Brian Sanders @ Columbus Republic (Jennings County reporter) - Website: Kevin and Tom will add an advertisement - HHH/Community Calendars: Sherida and Joann will handle this - Fliers: Bill has finished them; Simeon, Tom, Kevin, Troy, Sherida and Bill will distribute them to local establishments (i.e. Senior Center, laundromats, tire shops, etc.) First Aid: Les will handle this.
