FMRS Meeting Minutes 6-6-06 Jennings County Government Center, Friends Office Called to Order @ 5:30 PM Attendance: Tom Moore, Joann Moore, Sherida Moore, Kevin Jayne, Troy Jackson, Cherie Ticknor, Simeon Stearns via phone. Approval of Minutes: Spelling corrections were made in May's minutes. Treasurer's Report (Summary): - CENTRA: Checking $2737.37; Savings $25.51; TOTAL $2762.88 - Home Federal: Checking $4856.88; Total expenses $620.87 This report excludes an additional $825 from cleanup T-Shirts expenses. Coffee Creek Conservation Club has offered contributions if needed. Old Business: Assignments: Troy: - Check vendors for dump signs: We need to map sites via GIS (including Tobey Hole) and send these sits to Jeff Fisch via email. -Web site information: Two styles were made: one that Leanne created, and one created by Bill Black. The group voted on using Leanne's design. Troy will contact Bill Black to get our login information to access our site. Tom suggested adding a counter and a guest book to the site. Tom mentioned that Kyle Shade is working on a logo for the site; Troy will upload it when it is finished. Simeon/Everett: - Perpetrator camera report: Animals, but no people, were captured on film. They need a $10 monthly budget for film; Sim will contact Bryce to look at getting short-exposure film to avoid wasting unexposed film on a normal roll. Skipping some monthly meetings: March, July, August, and December. Carried unanimously. Watershed Management update: Kevin graduated today; his Powerpoint project is posted on the WMU website. He recommends sending more people. Kevin gained technical, financial and organizational skills that he can apply to our cause, as well as met some 'alumni' that could contribute to our cause. A motion was made and carried to reimburse his mileage of 150 miles @ 35 cents per mile. Status of EnviroScape curricula purchased for local schools: Tom read a thank-you card from Scipio Elementary for the use of the materials. Sherida will look into United Way and the State Employees Community Campaign (www.insecc.org) for possible contributions. New Business: Evaluate cleanup efforts: Things to do better: - More food: Aproach Wendy's, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, Arby's, Firsich's, S&J Vending, . Possibly grill out hot dogs. Tom suggested to look into JTM hamburgers to grill. - Look for more community involvement (i.e. Howard Jones' wrestlers, Senior Center for serving food, etc.). - Reconnaissance: pre-cleanup surveys of sites; form a 'mobile group' to go site-to-site during cleanups. Things that worked well: - Advertisement: Continue to involve Cub Scouts (Larry Treadway) and focus next time on Girl Scouts (Robin McClintock). - Date of cleanup: no major interferences, great turnout. - Meeting Spots New Ideas: - Postcards: cost would be $50 for 200 addresses. - Worker compensation gifts: Caribeenors or can openers? Pre-Action Register items/assignments: - Les/Cherie: Inventory dry bags and look into purchasing additional ones; Bass Pro has a C-Line 15 gallon @ $32.99 and 8 gallon @ $20.00 . He will get 200 industrial trash bags from his employer. Cherie: Will approach local groceries for food donations, fruit/veggie treats. - Tom: MicroFlex sample gloves; Tom brought in gloves for review to see if we were interested in purchasing. The group felt that medium would be the size we would need. We have to order by-the-case, 50 per box/10 boxes per case. To be resolved at next meeting. - Tom: Look into chip donations. - Kevin: T-shirts for sponsorship. GPS unit. Kevin will look into a Wal-Mart grant for five shovels, 20 first aid kits, water and coated Jersey gloves - Hank Byrom @ Majestic Electric: possible loading equipment. Charles Taylor's wife is willing to donate a flat-bottom boat to the group. Correspondence: - Jennifer Boyle is resigning from her current position beginning tomorrow, to move to a USDA position. Other: - Gary Smith to hold a Prosecutor's Meeting with the City Council to discuss dumping legislation. One idea to be discussed includes tiered fees. Tom noted that FMRS should attend. - Cherie presented brochures on the Jane Goodall Foundation's Roots & Shoots program for possible funding for the group. Application costs $35. She will present again at the next meeting. - Kevin will host and Leanne will train at HRW training sessions during the last weekend in July thru August on Fridays @ Muscatatuck Office (minimum 5, maximum 12 participants).
