FMRS Meeting Minutes 9-5-06 @ the Jennings County Public Library Called to Order @ 5:35 PM Attendance: Tom Moore, Joann Moore, Sherida Moore, Kevin Jayne, Troy Jackson, Simeon Stearns, Christinia Koons, Everett Sparksmann, Kristi Rowell. Approval of Minutes: Approved as read. Treasurer's Report: Home Federal - $1105.78; CENTRA- $2737.37 checking/ $25.58 savings. Old Business: Cherie Ticknor- Roots and Shoots: Tabled. HRW Water Quality class report (Kevin): It was very successful. 9 students attended (8 were Jennings natives), including the Ticknors and Barb and Nathan King. Test scores were posted last week (2 tests were 14 out of 14!). Elizabeth with Clifty's group wants to organize e Coli testing in the future. Troy made a suggestion to use the Annual Meeting to announce the formation of another class. Dump signs @ Tobey Hole: Everett requested that we re-consider posting a sign. Tom and the group agree that warning perpetrators of possible fines will get their attention. Assignments: Camera report from Sim and Everett: Sim is worried that his camera will be sabotaged if its flash gives away its presence. He is looking into mounting it high in a tree or mask it from sight. Everett has pictures from his camera, but it has stopped working. No prosecutable pictures were obtained. FMRS will reimburse him for film and development cost. Watershed Management Update- Kevin: As mentioned @ last meeting, Kevin has graduated and his Powerpoint is posted on the WMU website. New Business: United Way- Kristi Rowell: Kristi noted that $180,000 of United Way funds will be invested back into the community. Funds may be allocated to FMRS, and has in the past via donations from schools. There are 3 ways to receive funds: a) 501C3 application/certification, b)special projects and collaboration and c)donor designation. Option C should be our focus; however, Kristi will send Sim an application for us to fill out and submit it to UW. Chamber of Commerce: Susan Anderson was unable to attend. Sim reported that she would promote for us via their newsletter. Tom suggested she attend and propose to us the advantages of our joining the chamber. Yearly membership is $62/year. ACTION REGISTER October 7 Sweep Food * Kevin: Subway-40 sandwiches; McDonald's-40 plain hamburgers; Papa John's-'unlimited' pizzas; Will try Wendy's and Taco Bell also. * Tom: KFC (Mike Barnes) -slaw and mashed potatoes. Todd Firsich for 'burgers and dogs' and Taylor Barger for gas grill. Also Arby's, S&J Vending, JTM Hamburgers? * Tom: Chips * Joann will supply condiments. Tom will supply chips. Drinks * Sherida/Tom will get $25 worth of water from IGA; some water left from last cleanup. Walmart offered to donate this time, pending we get our request form issued in time. * Troy was rejected by RC, and will call Don Dillman @ Bartholomew County Beverage. Gloves * Simeon: Will ask Sheriff's Department for donations; will promote in advertisements to bring own gloves. Registration * Christinia w/Sherida: Same routine as last time. Publicity: TV * Simeon: Will update video to air on JCTV, Madison, North Vernon and Seymour channels for $250. Civic Groups * Simeon/Tom will talk to Kiwanis, Rotary and JCHS. * Troy: will contact Howard Jones' wrestlers. Radio * Simeon sent email to surrounding stations. Newspaper * Meeting Minutes and ad? Website/data * Sim to contract Rodney Holmes @ Wolf Creative Design to host/publish the sight hopefully in time for the cleanup, but will definitely add cleanup stats afterward. * Troy: purchase 3 USB memory sticks for the group. HHH/Community Calendars: * Joann/Tom (school calendars and newsletters). Fliers * Sim has modified and will contact Bill Suhre to pass out like last time. First Aid * Les Storage * Les/Cherie Inventory dry bags and look into purchasing additional ones; A motion was made for FMRS to purchase 5 additional dry bags of 8-15 gallon size (ref 6/6/06 minutes). Kevin is the backup for this. Trash Bags * Les: donation of 200 large industrial bags from his work * Kevin: include this with the Walmart grant. Drop signs * Use exiting ones. Walmartgrant * Kevin: Apply for Walmart grant to purchase GPS/GIS unit, gloves, shovels, first aid kits, water and Jersey gloves. Leaders: Note: Simeon suggested that all leaders survey their sites to evaluate equipment/personnel needs.
