FMRS Meeting Minutes 10-3-06 @ the Jennings County Public Library Called to Order @ 5:30 PM Attendance: Tom Moore, Joann Moore, Sherida Moore, Kevin Jayne, Troy Jackson, Simeon Stearns, Les Ticknor. Approval of Minutes: Approved as read. Treasurer's Report: Home Federal - $823.86; CENTRA- $2762.88 checking/ $25.58 savings. Old Business: Action Register October 7 Sweep (confirmed items): Food * Kevin: Subway-40 sandwiches; McDonald's-40 Quarter Pounders; Papa John's-'unlimited' pizzas. * Tom: KFC (Mike Barnes) -50 pieces of chicken, slaw and mashed potatoes. Todd Firsich confirmed 'burgers and dogs' and Taylor Barger for gas grill. * Tom: Chips * Joann will supply condiments. Tom will supply chips. Drinks * Sherida/Tom will get $25 worth of water from IGA; some water left from last cleanup. Walmart offered to donate this time, pending we get our request form issued in time. * Troy was rejected by RC, and will call Don Dillman @ Bartholomew County Beverage. Gloves * Simeon: Will ask Sheriff's Department for donations, and promote in advertisements to bring own gloves. Still some Jersey gloves from last cleanup; will purchase more to sell like last time. Registration * Christinia w/Sherida: Same routine as last time. Publicity: TV * Simeon: Will update video to air on JCTV, Madison, North Vernon and Seymour channels for $250. Civic Groups * Simeon/Tom will talk to Kiwanis, Rotary and JCHS. * Troy: will contact Howard Jones' wrestlers. Radio * Simeon sent email to surrounding stations. Newspaper * Meeting Minutes and ad were submitted to PDS Website/data * Sim to contract Rodney Holmes @ Wolf Creative Design to host/publish the sight hopefully in time for the cleanup, but will definitely add cleanup stats afterward. * Troy: purchase 3 USB memory sticks for the group. HHH/Community Calendars: * Joann/Tom (school calendars and newsletters). Fliers * Sim has modified; Bill Suhre passed out some of them to local business. Banner * Sim had Express Printing print them and are placed @ Hwy7& 50 intersection and Muscatatuck County Park First Aid * Les Storage * Tom to check out storage shed to inventory dry bags and look into purchasing additional ones; A motion was made for FMRS to purchase 5 additional dry bags of 8-15 gallon size (ref 6/6/06 minutes). Need a shovel for each dry bag also. Kevin will be Tom's backup for this. If time permits, Tom or Les will mark our buckets with "FMRS" to prevent them from being 'misplaced'. Trash Bags * Les: donation of 200 large industrial bags from his work * Troy: will purchase 3-4 33 gallon packages from Walmart. Drop signs * Use exiting ones. Walmart grant * Kevin: Not enough time to apply for grant; look into this at next cleanup. GPS/GIS unit was purchased. Leaders: Note: Simeon suggested that all leaders survey their sites to evaluate equipment/personnel needs. Kevin to contact Ken to form a 'Mobile Group' to address small or last-minute-discovered locations. Below is a list of sites, leaders and approximate volunteers/equipment needed. United Way Contributions: Sim and Troy will be working at the Celebrity Wait Staff Dinner on Wednesday, October 4. Doors open @ 5:30pm and dinner is served @ 6:15pm. FMRS to auction off a donated canoe (valued @ $569) and other items; proceeds and tips to be allocated to the United Way. New Business: Chamber of Commerce: Susan Anderson was unable to attend. Tabled. Correspondence: - Kevin requested that we announce a future Hoosier Riverwatch, Watershed Management and GPS unit training at the cleanup.WMT applications are due in November, and the cost has risen to $400 per applicant. He would like 4-5 people at a time for the GPS training. Kevin will try to get a signup sheet at the cleanup. - Ken Huff and Bill Suhre reported their pre-cleanup reconnaissance results to Tom. - Les mentioned an offer fromYahoo Search for non-profit organizations to earn 1 cent for every hit it gets. He will get more info and report next meeting. Other: - Sim mentioned that Wolf Creative Design is awaiting info from Bill Black @ Black Business Systems to take over from the website. According to Bill, this will happen by Saturday.
