Our volunteers are vital to our ongoing success and work on projects ranging from painting, clean-up, landscape and general repair for our Jennings County agencies and some of their clients. Day of Caring has grown to include 55 projects, including 28 at Senior Housing, and approximately 200 volunteers. This year we hope to do even more! I have included a project sheet, if you have a project you would like to submit for consideration! Please begin organizing your work team and communicate your plans with us to participate. If you'd like to volunteer, you can sign up online at: http://www.jcunitedway.com if you have a team of volunteers that would like to work together, just list them. Individual volunteers will be placed on teams. (Rain date is tentatively the following Saturday, but teams are encouraged to select an alternate date to best suit themselves.) If you would like to fill the Friends group in, this is where we are at with Central Muscatatuck. HHH is putting together a draft copy of the job announcement, this is a little behind schedule as we are having to reassign responsibilities to HHH Council members after losing our administrative help. When completed we will send the draft out to the general e-mail group in all 4 counties for comments. After that a hiring committee consisting of one individual from each of these groups 1)Historic Hoosier Hills 2) Friends of Muscatatuck 3) Regional rep from SWCD's representing Scott, Jefferson and Jennings counties 4) A rep from Ripley County SWCD. This group of 4 individuals will review résumé's and choose the top 3 or 4 candidates to interview. These 4 individuals will also be responsible for holding interviews. Simeon, could the Friends Group supply us with the name of a hiring committee member within the next couple of weeks ? If the weather cooperates, I should be in Switzerland County tomorrow (Tuesday). If you need to contact me call 812-427-3126 Ext 3. Thanks Simeon, and best of luck with your open house. Terry" * Correspondence to Kevin from Brent T. Ladd: Dear IWLA Graduates, In helping to raise awareness and recognize your accomplishments we have crafted a news release. Attached to this email is a news release for you to edit and use to send to your local media announcing your graduation from the watershed academy. Our advisory committee thought that the press release would be most effective if it came from your group or from someone in your community. We suggest that you ask the President of your association, or your employer to send it on your behalf, or send it yourself. Feel free to write your own release or edit this one. You can download your photo from the graduation ceremony at http://www.ecn.purdue.edu/SafeWater/iwla-graduation/. Click on the photo to load the full-size photo, then right-click to save it. You may also want to put this in your watershed organization newsletter if you have one. Tell your community about your accomplishments! Please send me a copy or Web link of your news releases when they are published. The academy will be sending out a general news release to Conservation Partnership organizations as well. I was hoping to be able to talk to someone in your organization before any information was disseminated about your possible involvement in the festival, but as I see that a discussion has already been initiated, I feel I should clarify our position. We plan on using some proceeds from the festival to make a cash donation to FMRS. The amount will be a percentage of our net profit. Not having all our expenses lined out and having no estimate of ticket sales, it would be premature to make any guesses to how much this might amount to. This donation will be made regardless of any involvement on your part in the festival. In regards to your possible involvement, I had thought that perhaps you might like to set up a booth at the festival to promote your cause. Our philanthropic purpose as an organization is to promote and help the Muscatatuck River and its attendant properties. We are far more interested in promoting you than having you promote us, although we certainly don't mind if you provide a link to the festival site from the FMRS site. I will not be able to attend a meeting on Tuesday, March 6 due to a Community Choir rehearsal. We can continue to discuss via email or phone. I would be open to hearing your ideas on how we can help.
